I was scammed as well on Oct. 2 in Budapest, Hungary. I landed, saw the little sticker on the phone about making the call, and found when I got home that I was charged $41.91 by "800-608-0575." I was on the phone for a minute, two max, just to let my family know that I had arrived safely. Does anyone have any photos of the stickers on the phones that can be used as proof?  What more can be done?Dennis

not sure adding my story helps or not. but i called visa after being shocked by charges on my card for 2 calls made to canada from ireland.  they said they would 'look into it' but said that i might be SOL because that's how the company probably works.  after doing some internet investigating today i now see that this was not a mistake but an intentional way to scam people out of money.  i then called the number on my credit card for an explanation of the charges.  they told me my 3-minute call was charged the minimum 5-minute charge plus a connection fee which came to $41.51.  my 2nd call was a longer 21-minute call but i was still charged $112.42.  the worst thing is that earlier i made a call with change i found in my pocket.  i talked for somewhere between 3-5 minutes and the call only cost me 2 euros.  there was no explanation on the phone of what the charges would be.  obviously you are stolen from if you use a credit card.  and the worst thing is it seems there is nothing the unknowing customer can do other than complain on this forum.  it's just preaching to the converted.  i didn't even remain on the line with the company long enough for them to offer me back a bit of money.  i wonder if holding the hotel responsible would be helpful.

No Settlement!
Several phone calls were made from Europe to the United States. Based on the published price, the calls should have been abotu $5.  We were instead charged about $400.  When I called to complain, they offered to credit back less than one third of this charge, as long as I agreed to not pursue this through the credit card company.I DID NOT ACCEPT THEIR OFFER!Instead, I am launching an effort to end this scam.  I am pursuing action through credit card companies first, and then legal, political, media and tourism channels if necessary.I encourage everyone who has been scammed by this company to report the fraud to their credit card company, regardless of whether you accepted their offer.  In addition, please check the Internet in December for a website that will register your complaint and possibly serve as the basis of a class-action lawsuit to recover your money. For the sake of future victims, this scam must be stopped.

FileComplaint With FCC
The name of this company is International Satellite Communications, located in California (Los Angeles, I believe).  I'm filing a complaint with the FCC.  I advise everyone to do the same!Yep, more of the same.  We made 4 calls, 2 were connected for less than 10 minutes each.  We got our credit card statement with charges over $245.  Called them to get a credit, and got the same story as everyone.  Should have asked for an operator.  Well, they don't have any info posted about calling operator.  Just an 800 number, put in your credit card, then dial the number.  And rates posted at 20cents/min.  Should only have had about $6 USD charged, but no, $245.

I called Switzerland from France for a minute call, and I got charged $32.54... I'll be fighting my credit card company to get reimbursed!
Update Time:2008/9/18 0:00:00 | Call Type:Other WebSite
Hi was in Strasbourg, France, calling Basel, Switzerland to confirm pick-up from a friend... I used the first 'pay phone' in the train station for a 1 minute call...My bill: $32.54 Canadian DollarsWhen my Canadian phone card didn't work, I had 3 minutes to call and catch my train... I called the 1-800-608-0575 shown on the payphone (1-800 = toll free... right? apparently not!!)... The customer service rep informed me that I SHOULD have called the operator to ask what the fee was going to be.He also informed me that 1) I used a satelite phone (which is more expensive), 2) the fee was a flat rate that includes 3 minutes talk time... and additional minutes range from $3.99-$6.99 a min)Because I was a first time user of this company's phone system, he put me on hold to 'check' and confirm this... they decided to credited me $13.00 CND ... Still... I could have purchased a Swisscom sim card for my cell phone, and had 20 minutes of talk time for that price... Lesson learned!!
