Keep calling for an EX_Roomate who doesn't even live in the country anymore.  I have told them this # is no longer a valid contact # for her and yet they wont' stop calling ME.  It's no longer her phone #, I made it my personal cell after she moved out.Starting with DONOTCALL & BBB, but if they keep calling will have to resort to cease-desist letter from Todd Friedman's law firm.

dear mary, without providing the company with an alter number sadly they are allowed to contact you at work. if you want to calls to stop to your job you need to give them another number to call. and yes they are able to garnish your wages. depending on how much you make, your paycheck will have a deduction of 10% - 25% before taxes and another other deductions (medical,dental,401k) are taken out of your check. and depending on how many times you get paid a month depends on how much they get a month. and the garnishment doesnt stop until the full balance is paid off. 95% of the time it is more than a monthly payment arrangment. best thing for  you to do is get on a voluntary payment arragment.

I was called for a numerous amount of days at my place of work.  I refused to give them my home number and they threatened to garnish my wages, can they do that?  I got a call on Friday and this woman was trying to get my home phone number and I refused to give it to her, she started yelling on the phone and all I understood was something about garnishment of wages.  I tried to get her name and phone number and she would not give me any of that information.  Yes I owe a debt but does that mean that they have the right to call me at my place of work and threaten me?  I was not given the name of the company or anything.  All I was given was a name of a worker and this phone number along with an extension number.

dear Gil,since you seem to know the laws so well, look up the fdcpa laws. it is against the law to disclose a business matter on a machine and for the reason of the call. the only details allowed are the contact # reference # and if so wanted to name of the person calling! look that one up! stop being ignorant and call them back. YOU OWE MONEY!!!

They called me too. I reported them to the FTC b/c I was not the person they were looking for. To the people who say to just pay them:  1. If they are legit why don't they tell you anything about themselves.  2. If they have time to look up names in a phone book, which is how they must have gotten my name and number, then they have time to tell me who they are, what they do, and where they are located. Instead of answering those questions they hung up on me.  3. I pay my bills, I don't need to be harassed by these people. When I called them they tried to verify my DOB and soc by giving them to me. I can only assume that they were waiting for me to respond with "that is incorrect, my DOB is xx/xx/xxxx and me soc is xxx-xx-xxxx." When I simply said that is not me, they hung up. I am sure that if you call enough people a few will give up that information. You have to protect your identity today. If this is a legit business they should have represented themselves better. Report them to the FTC. Worst case this is a legit business who does not have the time to be civil. Best case maybe we can protect others from them.

This is the third collection agency that has tried to collect on a student loan for our daughter that we paid off in 1995!  My online research shows that some of these agencies buy lists of loans (btw, our bank was bought out by another years ago and the loans sold to Sallie Mae), try to collect on them, sell them to other companies even if they've collected on them.  I have put a fraud alert on my credit report, but it expired last week.  Guess I'll do it again.  I also wrote to Social Security because the timing of the first attempt coincided with my husband's  first social security check.

I attended a private college and paid my loans off in full in 1985.  Today a  woman named "Mary" calls my office during the workday and leaves a voice mail saying she is with the U.S. Department of Education and she is looking for Randall Marshall???? Her message states that it is imperative that I return her call at 1-800-896-4539 and her direct extension is 14701 and she provides a reference number. I have been in this job for nine years now and we have never had a Randall Marshall work here.

I am one of the ridiculous people who took out a student loan when I was 18 and 19. I could not have qualified for enough credit to get a candy bar but I did receive a $20,000 loan from the US Dept of Educ.  Everybody at CCA was nice enough until I told them I could afford $150 a month instead of the $266 they were asking.  I was threatened between 15-20 times over the course of our 100 minute conversation with such phrase as "I don't know why I am even talking to you, I should have sent this account to be garnished already" or "you can send the $150 if you want but we need $266."  When I asked them if I were to pay the $150 a month would it stop the garnishment process, they never over the course of 1 hour answered my question yes or no.  In fact, toward end of the phone conversation, the supervisor's supervisor ranted for about 10 minutes how if I did not right then answer him yes or no whether I would pay the $266 a month he would send me straight to garnishment. I responded if he would answer me yes or no about if I payed $150 a month would it stop the garnishment I would answer his question.  Of course, he did not give me an answer so I hung up and waited for the garnishment notice to arrive by mail.  But to my suprise, they are still calling me a month later and not garnishing. I guess them getting a commission check is keeping them from pulling the trigger on garnishment.

YOU PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS!!!! DO YOU THINK THESE PEOPLE HAVE TIME TO BE WASTING ON YOU. THE COMPANY IS CALLED CCA AND IT IS A COLLECTION AGENCY AND THEY WORK FOR THE DEPT OF EDUCATION! WHATS SO HARD TO BELIEVE ABOUT THAT? IF YOU KNOW YOU OWE THE MONEY WHY DONT YOU GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO HELP YOU? IF YOU CANT PAY THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS THEY HAVE AVAILABLE AND YOU WOULD KNOW THAT IF YOU WRENT DUCKING PAYING YOUR DEBT. I AGREE WITH NEROD IF A FRIEND OWED YOU THE MONEY YOU WOULD BE CALLING FOR IT. AND ALL YOUR DOING IS SLIMMING THE CHANCES FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANCHILDREN TO RECEIVE THE HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO GO TO SCHOOL. IMAGINE NO ONE PAYING THE MONEY BACK WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO HAVE LEFT TO GIVE HELP TO THOSE WHOM ACTUALLY WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL AND FINISH. ALL IM SAYING IS THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT CALLING FOR THE HECK OF IT, IF ITS NOT YOU THAT OWES THIS DEBT THEN JUST ANSWER AND SAY WRONG PERSON. YOU PEOPLE ARE REALLY UNBELIVEABLE YOU THINK EVERYONE IS OUT TO GET YO. YOUR NOT THAT IMPORTANT THEY HAVE OTHER THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT IT. OH YEA AND IF YOU DO OWE AND THINK ITS NOT GOING TO CATCH UP WITH U THEN THINK TWICE. ITS THE GOVERNMENTS MONEY AND THEY CAN GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT BACK BY OFFSETTING YOUR TAXES OR GARNISHING YOUR WAGES OH AND DONT THINK THEY DONT GARNISH SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS EITHER.

This number is a company called CCA and they collect on defaulted student loans.  Do you think that you are doing yourself or the economy or your fellow tax payer a favor by not paying back the loan you took out to get an education.   Even if you didn't complete your studies or get the high paying job you were hoping for, you owe the money.  You bought the seat in the classroom so pay for it.  Every one complains about the "bill collector" and "debtors" are  proud to brag about how they hang up when called.  Loan 50K to a friend, call them twice a week and when they don't pay you back or you get hung up on.... hire a bill collector to go after your friend and get back what is rightfully yours.
