They're calling to "check on some recent, potentially fraudulent, activity on my account ending in number XXXX." Then they ask you to enter your information. I don't think so!

Yeah I just got a call from this number, I was a little sketched out, knowing that theres alot of scams out there I'm sure.  I didn't even give out my card number call it back and press 0 and you dont have to, thats some very private info, but i had just bought a BMX bike and some food so I had more then a $120+ charge on my card.  you can talk to a company associate, they ask for your name, i was told my first 3 social security numbers, and was informed to either tell the following two or the last four, then the area code, then they inform you of the charge that they were worried or curious about.

This call was from Visa Fraud Prevention.

I got a voice message from the same number and, by directly calling my bank, was transferred to the number that had originally called me (listed at the beginning of this thread), which they confirmed was a legitimate call from the VISA fraud department on behalf of TCF Bank, therefore not from the bank itself. People are scared enough about scams the way it is. If there are legitimate phone calls from legitimate numbers, over-zealous, uninformed posters kind of defeat the purpose of this site.

This is a legit number. They ask for your credit card number in an automated service, but if you don't feel comfortable doing that you can speak to a representative. I made a large purchase on my card and they were simply verifying that it was not fraud. You do not give any information that could result in identity theft. (Zip code, the middle 2 #'s on your SSN, name)

TCF MI customer
About 10 seconds after I made a purchase, they called. I called TCF and explicitly asked whether 877-585-6486 was the Visa Fraud Prevention number. They verified it, and offered to connect me through to the number if I had any worries. I called them back myself, and they do ask for your card number. They knew my recent transactions from different, trusted websites, so unless this is a really, really elaborate scam with people on the inside of the bank and Visa, I think this is legit.

i received a call this morning..i called tcf and asked for the fraud investigation number and they verified that it was 877-585-6486. JUST call TCF first and verify if you have any worries before calling the other number.

I called tcf and they said nothing was wrong with my account and if it was visa they would've put a hold on my check card and they didn't. TCF did not recognize the number so I asked for the real visa fraud number, it was an 877 number but the rest was totally different. I tried calling back the 414 number that called and left the msg and got some ghetto sounding msg(no way a bank would let a representative sound like that). I think it’s a scam and all these A-holes on here saying it’s not are the same person that’s in on it!

I received this call today but I do not have an account with TCF.  A message was left, but only said, "please press 3".  Hoping that it was just a wrong number...

It's a real number. I called TCF just to verify and it sounded like they regularly got calls about this. They transferred me to the VISA fraud prevention services and I was instructed to press "0" right away to talk to a real person. I had to give them the number they initially called, my zip code and the two middle #'s of my SSN. After that they ran through some recent purchases and had my confirm that I had made them, that was it.
Update Time:2010/3/19 0:00:00 | Call Type:Other WebSite
Whoever this is calls every few hours and leaves a fragmented, recorded message. If they are TCF, they must be screwed up because I have NEVER had an account with them. If what they keep calling about is so important and legitimate, they should leave a real message.

They continually call. I finally picked up and decided not to give them my zip code or any information
