I also received a call from 972-497-1400 claiming to be from Social Security and my message was supposedly a follow up call about a form they sent me for extra help with Prescription Meds .  They left a call back number 1-800-772-1213 (which is actually the SS number)  if I wanted an application mailed to me.  The recording was not good, when it started playing  back it sounded like something had been cut off in the beginning but the jist of it was I could either call and get an application or go to www.ss.gov to get one there.  I don't know what is going on but it seems strange to me that so many calls are going out even if this isn't a scam something doesn't seem right about it.  It is a little weird to me that they are making so many calls , especially encouraging people to apply for extra help when all I hear about is all the cuts they are making!!!!

I got this call today and it said ti was the social security office wanting to extend help for prescription drug payments ( that I dont have) nor any pending action with SSA. Immediately i knew this was a scam b/c prescription drug coverage is handled by medicare and/or medicaid not social security....don't fall for it...don't call the 1-800 # back!

I got this phone call on my cellphone.  This is the number I gave the social security administration when I signed up for my appointment and to contact me on.  They were calling to remind me of my appointment that was scheduled the next morning and left a message.  No personal information was requested.  It left a 1-800 number to call which matched up with the number on the SSA site and I called it to confirm my appointment to make sure I had the correct time.  (Message said 1, I thought 2...wanted to clarify)Just remember...just because they are working for the SSA doesn't mean they are a trust worthy person.  Never, Never, Never give personal information over the phone like your credit cards or social security number unless you are soft.  Someone can get a job there and want to steal identities...it does happen.  It happens at banks and other companies too.  Not every worker is an honest worker.  If you are unsure dont give them the information.  And if in doubt file fraud on your credit and identity, etc to CYA.

Got an odd call from American Voice - the voicemail they left was blank and lasted about 30 seconds. No idea why they called. Most of the reports I've seen online seem to regard it as a scam to phish for SS numbers, but others claim it is a legit service employed by the SSA to provide reminders about appointments, hearings, etc. Since we had no message it's hard to know what to think!

I checked it, it was from Texas, I didn't answer, since I don't know anybody from Texas, and I live in Brooklyn, NY.

I just got the call and it was reminding me of my appointment on Monday. It is not a scam. Whatever number you gave the SS office during your initial phone interview they will call and remind you of your office appointment.
